About NaneaKite and learning in Essaouira
Our school is on the main beach of Essaouira, at Rue Abdari, a short walk from the medina and right by the water. Every lesson starts here with a briefing and a gear check before we head out.
Yes. You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim without assistance. You do not need to be a strong swimmer for surf lessons in shallow water, but for kitesurfing and wingfoiling you will spend time in water that is over your head.
Surf is the easiest to try for a single session and needs no wind. Kitesurf takes longer to learn but gives you the widest range of conditions in Essaouira. Wingfoil works in lighter wind than kitesurf and suits anyone who already has board experience. If you are unsure, tell us your dates and we will suggest the best fit.
Yes. Children can start surfing from around 8 years old, and kitesurfing from around 12, depending on their build and swimming ability. For younger students, we recommend private or semi-private lessons so the instructor can stay right beside them.
Our team is multilingual and teaches in English, French, Spanish, and Arabic, so you can learn in the language you are most comfortable in.
In the busy summer months, we recommend booking a few weeks ahead, especially for camps that include accommodation. Outside high season, we can often take students at short notice. Send us your dates, and we will confirm availability.

I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday with semi-private kitesurfing lessons, so we actually organised our trip to Morocco around it. My requirements were for the two of us to be together during our classes, but each have our own kite, and for the instructors to be certified and speak English. NaneaKite did not disappoint! We took 8 hours of lessons each and the progress we made was amazing. I had been in constant communication with Abdou, the owner, for months before our trip. He was always kind and reassuring, and kept me updated on the weather and kitesurfing conditions in Essaouira, which made planning everything so much easier. Our instructor, Mohammed, was amazing as well. He explained everything clearly from scratch, paid close attention to what we were doing, and corrected us whenever we made mistakes so that we could progress faster. We are so happy we chose NaneaKite and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to learn kitesurfing in Essaouira!
